her pups. |
 |
Sam - Male, fawn horsecoat, 1.5 years old. Owners
claimed they could not keep him because of a new baby on
the way. There is no reason this Shar-Pei, or the
majority of Shar-Pei, cannot live with children of any
age. He now lives in Pottsville, PA. |
 |

came from a shelter in Brooklyn, NY and was surrendered

Sami (a.k.a. Snickers) - Hi there! My name is Snickers. I am a female, dark chocolate horsecoat and I am between 2 and 3 years old. I am one of those New York City kids that got lost and ended up in a noisy, crowded shelter. That was not fun at all. There were lots of my canine friends there in search of a loving home. I really felt bad for all of them. I was one of the lucky ones because I was not there very long until two O.S. reps bailed me out. Staying at the rescue is not bad at all. We get good food, biscuits for good behavior, nice walks, toys to play with and lots of friendly volunteers that keep us company and play with us. I am a very healthy dog and passed my exam with flying colors. I love meeting people. That is my very favorite thing to do. I not only like to meet people, I give everyone kisses whether they want them or not. I am playful, happy and sweet. If you are looking for a really nice, fun-loving dog, give O.S. a call. I am ready to go. All I need is that very special family to say – “Hey, Snickers. We are coming to get you!” I will have my bags packed and will be ready to roll!! |
 |
Sammee Lee - Male, red fawn brushcoat. He was a

Sammo - Male, red fawn horsecoat, approx 1-2 yrs

friendly and well behaved. |
 |
Sammy - Male, fawn brushcoat. In May 1998 we got a
call that a Shar-Pei was fished out of the East River by
the NY City Police. He was paddling in circles, dazed,
dehydrated and hypothermic. A man who either got involved
in the rescue or heard of the rescue kept him where he
was working at a warehouse until he contacted us. The dog
needed to be hospitalized and this man paid for his vet
bill. The guy lives in Virginia and owns a female
Shar-Pei. Anita Murdaugh, our rep in the Jersey area who
does all the NYC rescues picked him up at the warehouse.
Before we got a chance to transport him to the rescue
home, the man from Virginia called and said he would
really like to adopt him. The only way OS would consider
it was verifying that a vet appointment had been made to
neuter him and do the eye surgery. All that has been done
and Sammy is living a very happy life in Virginia. |
 |
Sampson - Male, apricot dilute, 6 months old. He is from NYC, and originally from
Puerto Rico. His owner surrendered him because the
landlord would not allow a dog. He was formerly known as
Boris, and is living in Schaefferstown, PA. |
 |
Sandy - Female, fawn horsecoat, 3 years old from
New York City. She now lives in Harrisburg PA. |
 |
Sangria – Hello. My name is Sangria. I am
a female, black brushcoat and I am a young adult. I was rescued from a
shelter in PA. I got lost and was picked up by an animal control officer. My
owners were contacted, but they said they did not want me anymore. I guess
you could say that I was thrown away! I was so sad when I heard that. I
never thought that I would be listed as “homeless”. I still am trying to
figure out why they would not want me back. I thought I was a member of the
family. I loved them a lot and would have never turned my back on them.
Everyone at Operation Scarlet told me not to worry. They all said they like
me a lot and that makes me feel so much better. I am settling in and
realizing that the people at the rescue will find a very good home for me. I
am crate trained and housebroken. I hardly ever bark. I am actually quite
calm. I sit for a biscuit and even offer my paw. If I sound like the dog for
you, please contact O.S. and ask for me, Sangria. I will love you FOREVER
and ALWAYS. |
 |
Sara Lee - Hello. My name is Sara Lee. I
am a one year old, black brushcoat. I was a stray and came from a shelter in
PA. I am a very quiet, shy and gentle little girl. I do not like being
homeless for I really want someone who will love me and give me good care. I
promise to be a very good girl and will always remain loyal to that special
someone who will take me home with them. If you want a little cuddle bug,
get in touch with O.S. and ask for me, Sara Lee. |
 |

stray in the Harrisburg area and he now lives in Lebanon
PA. |

 |
Sasha IV - Female, fawn
horsecoat, 2 yrs old. She is from Georgia. She was hit by
a car and has extensive injuries. Her story was aired on
an Atlanta TV channel with a public plea for financial
help for her medical expenses. $3,000.00 was raised. She
had broken hips and a broken leg and severe lacerations
exposing internal organs. According to the veterinary
hospital she was about 10 minutes away from death when
she arrived at the hospital. She is an adorable, loving
girl who is deserving of all the help she received. She
now lives in Millersville PA. |
 |
Sasha V - Female, fawn horsecoat, 7 months old.
She was abandoned in an apartment in Manheim, PA. She is

 |
Sasha VI - Female, chocolate horsecoat from the
Harrisburg shelter. She was a stray. She was formerly
known as Tootsie. She now lives in Bethlehem PA. |
 |
Sasha VII - Hello, everyone. My name is
Sasha. I am a female, fawn horsecoat and I am just 6 months old. I came from
a shelter in Maryland. I was pretty frightened because my new family dropped
me off there and just walked away from me. I did not know why and I wondered
what I did wrong. I heard them tell the people at the desk that I was too
much trouble. Puppies do take some extra work because we do need to go to
the potty more often and we have a lot to learn like puppy manners and
social skills. We puppies rely on our human parents to teach us right from
wrong just like they teach their human children. I was quite sad, but the
nice people at O.S. told me not to worry about a thing. They said that a
very nice family will come along and scoop me up in no time. They also told
me that they would be sure that my new family will not desert me, but
instead give me lots of love and good care. I am really a very good puppy. I
am playful, but quite well behaved. I sleep all night and I am quite content
in my crate. |
 |
Sassy IV - Sassy
is a new arrival. She was rescued from a shelter in VA.
Her time was up as of March 30. Lucky for her that
O.S. was notified.
Mike Riddelle made the
trip to save the little Pei in distress. She is a sable
brushcoat and very, very sweet. |
 |
Sebastian II - Male, black horsecoat.
Sebastian was an owner surrender from Philadelphia, PA in
2001. He is now in a forever home with another Shar-Pei
in Martinsburg, WV. Thank you so much Bridgett and Tom
for giving him a second chance at life. |
 |
Segal - Hi! My name is Segal. I am a very handsome
and regal looking Shar-Pei. I am a two year old, male, sable horsecoat. I along
with my Shar-Pei friend, Chubbs, was surrendered by our owners to a shelter in
Pittsburgh, PA. Sad to say, they did not appreciate our loyalty and friendship.
Chubbs and I were very frightened at the shelter, but when we arrived at
Operation Scarlet things got much better for us. We like to go for walks and the
treats are out of sight. We now wag our tails and look much happier when the
volunteers spend time with us. What would really make my tail wag even faster
would be to find out that I have a loving family to call my very own. Call O.S.
and ask for Segal. You would really make my day!
|
 |
Selena - Hi everybody. My name is Selena.
I am 1 1/2 years old and I am a female, black brushcoat. I came from a
shelter in Philadelphia, PA. My owners dropped me off at the shelter because
they were moving. I must say I was very hurt and disappointed with their
decision to abandon me. We Shar-Pei love our families so much and it is
always so hurtful when they cast us aside. I hope to find a family who will
appreciate my love and loyalty. I am shy at first, but when I am comfortable
in my surroundings, I am very playful. I am a very good girl and I sit and
offer a paw for a dog treat. If you are looking for a very sweet and playful
Shar-Pei, call the rescue and ask for me, Selena! |

Sensei - Marysville, PA |

Serenity – Hello. My name is Serenity. I
am a very, very shy little chocolate brushcoat female. I am about 9 months
old. I came from a shelter in PA and was dropped off by my owner. I was so
scared at the shelter and just hid at the very back of the kennel. I did the
same thing when I was taken to O.S. I never thought I would be homeless,
especially not at only 9 months. I much prefer being around dogs than
people. I like playing with other dogs, but people really scare me. Maybe
in time I will come to realize that – Not all people are bad. Not all people
throw little puppies away. Not all people are disloyal. Not all people make
and then break promises. I really do want to be able to trust and enjoy
humans, but I am just not ready yet. I just want to hide in the back of my
kennel. I really don’t want my heart broken again. Word has it that I am
going to move on to a foster home. It will be more quiet – not as many
people to deal with. The people at O.S. seem to be nice. They said that they
will help me with my problem and that some day I will find a very special
person that I can trust and come to love. Maybe that will happen, but right
now I just want to hide in my crate. That is my safe place. |
 |
Shadow III - Male, black brushcoat, a 1 yr old. He
is from Lawrenceville, GA. He is an owner surrender who
could not keep him because of his work schedule. He is
good with other dogs and very friendly. Very playful. He
now lives in Quarryville PA. |
 |
Shadow IV - Hi, my name is Shadow. I am a
2 year old, male, fawn horsecoat. I was rescued from a shelter in PA because
my owner drove truck and could not take me on the road. I am a very playful
guy with a great temperament. I would really like to find a "forever" home
so that I will have a family I can love and who will love me in return. If
you are looking for a really good canine buddy, get in touch with O.S. and
ask for Shadow! |
 |
Shadow V – Hi! My name is Shadow. I am a
female, dark chocolate brushcoat and I am about one year old. I was taken to
a shelter because my owner was allergic to me. I am one very happy Shar-Pei.
My tail is always wagging and I am always on standby for the next person
that wants to play with me. I was a pretty sad dog when I lost my home, but
my luck changed very quickly. When I walked through the doors of Operation
Scarlet, I met a very nice man and lady. They said they were in search of
another Shar-Pei. Well, let me tell you, did I ever pour it on. I wiggled
and waggled and danced and spun around and did anything and everything to
show them what a happy dog I am. Well, it worked. I was chosen before I even
entered the rescue room to meet the other homeless Shar-Pei. As soon as I go
for my vet exam, I will be joining my new family. Thanks O.S. for finding my
new family so quickly! |
 |
Shaka - Female, chocolate. She is from Delaware. |
 |
Sharona - Hello. My name is Sharona. I am a female, cream horsecoat
and I am between 3 and 4 years old. I was a stray and came from a shelter in New
Jersey. I am very shy at first, but once I am assured that I will be treated
kindly, I will be your friend. I am very gently with my shyness, I do not get
grumbly. I would very much prefer a fenced in yard because of my shyness. I
could be difficult to catch if I slipped out the door. If given one wish, it
would be to find a family who would love me and give me lots of good care. I
dream of finding my "forever" home. If you would like to make my dream come
true, just call O.S. and ask for me, Sharona.

rescued from a shelter in Maryland in 2000. He is now enjoying the good
life in Columbia, Maryland with two other O.S. Shar-Pei. Thank you Vicki
and Pete for giving him that second chance that he so desperately needed.
He sure looked great on adoption day! |
 |
Shrek - Hi! My name is Shrek. I am a
male, red brushcoat and I am about one year old. I came from a shelter in
New York. I guess by now you are looking at the size of my head and
wondering what might be wrong with the picture. Well, nothing is wrong with
the picture. My head is actually that large. It does sometimes present
itself as a problem. Like when I am eating from my dog bowl. I have to
squeeze my fat little lips into the bowl. I have been called bobble head,
tomato head and hippo head. I don't mind. In fact, I have a great sense of
humor and can laugh right along with everyone else. You see, I hear many
people say that I am absolutely adorable and that really pleases me. |
 |
Shroeder aka Blu - Hi! My name is Blu. I am a five month old,
black brushcoat male. I was having lots of fun in my new home playing with
children and having a grand time when all of a sudden I was taken to a shelter.
I was really afraid since I am still a baby. My family said they did not want to
pay for eye surgery that I might need to have done. Now I am happier because I
am at Operation Scarlet and I have fun playing with the volunteers. That is okay
for now, but I really need a family who will enjoy watching me grow into a
handsome Shar-Pei. Puppies need a family to give them lots of love and that is
what I am in search of. I am a very good pup. I am crate trained and
housebroken. I would be a really happy boy again if I had a family that will
give me lots of love and good care. Why don't you give a call and ask for me,
Blu!!

Simba IV – Hello. My name is Simba. I am
approximately 5 to 6 years old and I am a male, cream horsecoat. I was
rescued from a shelter in NJ. I along with my Shar-Pei friend, Teddy Bear,
were taken to the shelter because an elderly family member was allergic to
us. Teddy and I spent several days at the shelter until O.S. picked us up. I
am a very well behaved boy and I love to be cuddled. I have very big
expressive eyes that will just melt your heart. I am housebroken, crate
trained, and I am very good with children, dogs and cats. If you are looking
for a wonderful friend and companion, please call the rescue and ask for me,
Simba. You would make me one very happy Shar-Pei. |

Slate - Hi! My name is Slate. I along with my three litter mates just
arrived at O.S. from a shelter in West Virginia. We are just 8 weeks old. I am a
male, lilac horsecoat mix. My mommy is a Shar-Pei but she is keeping it a secret
as to who my daddy is. I am a very happy baby and love to be held. We were
pretty scared when we had to leave our mommy and go to a shelter. The world sure
is a very big place when you are as little as me. My brother and sisters and I
hope to get chosen real soon so that we can grow up in a loving home. If you
think I am cute and would like to adopt me, give O.S. a call. Remember, ask for
me, Slate! |
 |

Smoke – Hi, Folks! My name is Smoke, I am a male, shaded black brushcoat
and I am just one year old. I was brought to O.S. by a family that took me in
because my owner was moving. The family that took me in was very nice, but they
realized that they just did not have the time for me. They do have a dog, and I
guess they realized they did not really want two dogs. I liked their dog and
their children and I was a pretty good boy, but, oh well, here I am, homeless
again. I am a very happy guy and very playful. I sit for biscuits and I am crate
trained. My wish is that I get a “forever” home very soon. I like people a lot,
but I really do not want to be bounced from place to place. If you think I might
be the dog for you, please contact O.S. and ask for me, Smoke. A call for me
would be a tail wagging experience! |

everywhere. Her name is Peg and I really like her a lot. Her picture is on this
page too. We were surrendered by our owners to a shelter in NY. We had to stay
in the yard all day and all night too. Peg was the only friend I had and she
watched over me.
|
 |
Snuggles -
Hello. My name is Snuggles. I am a 3 year old, female, cream brushcoat.
Never mind the ears. They just got a little bigger than they should have. Some
Shar-Pei do have bigger ears like mine and some Shar-Pei even have ears that
stand up. I know they are supposed to fit tight to the head, but I wanted to
stand out in the crowd. I came from a shelter in West Virginia.
|

I might be a mix. I am a very pretty girl with a shaded black brushcoat. I
have a wonderful personality and like people and other dogs. I am quite well
mannered and I would be a wonderful friend and loyal companion for a family
that would give me lots of love. I am anxiously waiting for that special
family. Get in touch with O.S. and just ask for Starr. |

Stitch -
Hi, everyone. My name is
Stitch. I am a red brushcoat male and I am
about 9 months old. I am originally from NC, but had been living in MD.
I was only with my family for two weeks. They got rid of me because they
said I was tormenting the cat. Boy, I got all the blame when in fact the
cat was teasing me. I would react to the darned cat and then I would get
all the blame. I have been bouncing from place to place like a little
rubber ball. I sure hope I soon find that special “forever” home that so
many dogs keep talking about. If you are in search of a really nice Pei
that loves meeting people and is very, very playful, then get in touch
with O.S. and ask for me, Stitch. I will be your loyal friend and
companion if given a chance.

Sushi
- Hi! My
name is Sushi. I am a one year old, female, fawn brushcoat.
I really cannot tell you why I was abandoned, but that is what happened to me.
Shelter employees found me at the shelter in the overnight drop box. I must say
that was the most frightening thing that ever happened to me. I overheard my
owners saying that they did not want the expense of treating my skin condition.
I think that is why they dumped me. True, my skin did need help, but come on;
they could have handled it a bit better than that! Anyway, the shelter
employees told me not to worry and put me in a nice warm kennel with fresh water
and some good food. I even had a soft blanket to sleep on. It was not long
until a nice guy by the name of Robb picked me up and put me in his car. Oh,
boy, not another drop box please!!! Robb assured me that I did not have to
worry or be frightened because I was going to a Shar-Pei rescue. Wow, was that
a relief! The people at the rescue are very nice and they take such good care
of all of us homeless kids. I was treated for fleas and given a good diet and
guess what? I started sprouting hair. All I needed was Frontline and a good
brand of dog food. I looked like a Chia Pet. Every day more and more hair
started popping out all over me. In about three weeks, I had a full coat of
hair. Amazing what a little bit of GOOD CARE will do for a dog. Well, now I am
sitting at Operation Scarlet in hopes that I will soon find my “Forever” home.
There will be no more DROP BOXES for me. If you think you would like a very
petite and friendly Shar-Pei, give O.S. a call and ask for me, Sushi. Boy,
telling that story was fun. I hope you enjoy reading it and I hope I get chosen
real soon. |
 |
Sweetie - Female, cream, 3 years old. She was
