INTERESTED IN ADOPTION OF A SHARI-PEI

I am constantly looking at this site and all the wonderful Shar Pie dogs you have rescued. I currently have an aging dog that I love so much. I cannot face being without a dog, but am unsure of how he would accept sharing his home with another dog, so I really hope that it will be a long time before I must look to adopt one of your rescues.

Is there an active Shar Pei rescue in Michigan. I am considering a companion for my six year old "only child" Shar Pei. Rosey is spoiled rotten but spends a lot of time alone. We have no children or other pets in the house. She is never allowed to run free as other dogs and cats in our neighborhood are. She looks out the window, sees other dogs and cats, and cries for companionship and someone to play with. I am not sure if she would accept a companion as she is very possessive of her people, Jerry and I (especially Jerry. She is Daddy's girl.) Also, Rosie cuts very easily. We cannot allow her to play with other dogs when she is on a walk on her leash. She loves to play but has had to have numoruous stitches from romping with the golden retrievers next door. If she would accept a companion in her home, it would have to be a gentle dog and probably a male. I would never be able to part with a Shar Pei or any dog so I would want to make several visits with Rosie to try things out, that is why I am looking for a Shar Pei in Michigan. I want to make the best decision for both Rosie and a possible adoptee.

Hello!
I found this website while watching a rescue show on animal planet. Shar pei's are my uttmost favorite breeds, because of their beauty, and character. I am currently a student at a University but upon graduating and settling down, I can guarantee you that I will be in touch with you in hopes of adopting my very own shar pei. This is a great website, keep up the good work!
Best wishes,

Enjoyed perusing all the wonderful pictures & stories on your site. Our Female Shar Pei, Fanny, was a "rescued Pei" that adopted us and our male Sharp Pei, Bruno, in March 2003. We have become firm believers that adopting a Shar Pei is a decision no one will ever regret. Thanks to organizations like yours, these wonderful creatures get the second chance at a happy life they so deserve.

We had a Sharpei (Spencer) Our vet recommended that he be put down after he protected his domain from and drunk who came into our properity unanounced. We miss him very much and sometimes think we would like to own another Sharpei -- if we ever decide to get another pet. Oh, how I wish I had known about all of you six years ago -- at least I would have had a support system to advise me rather than a vet who doesn't know this breed. If we come to your area can we visit?
sincerly yours, mks

My 17 year old Shar Pei (Nu-Gi) just passed away and I was just trying to find comfort in looking at your dogs. It's hard to read their stories. I live in the Pgh area and if you would have any information regarding a young dog please let me know (preferrably female but not firm). My husband and I had two Shar-Pei mixes that had the same mother (she was a pure bred Shar-Pei). Each time she went into heat the owner would tie her outside. It was a shame. The first litter produced our "Mutley". She was a beauty - half Shar-Pei and half sheppard. Then the second litter...the owner was going to put the whole litter down. My husband and I stepped in and all of the pups found homes. That produced our "Pia". She is half Shar-Pei and half Golden. Pia is still with us and will be 11 two days after Christmas. Her sister Mutley passed away two years ago last month. We miss her everyday. My husband and I rescue older dogs that need medical attention or that no one wants anymore. Right now we have three. We would be interested in helping out if we could. Shar-Pei's have given us more love than we could ever return. Our address is: 2043 Brackenville Road, Hockessin, DE 19707 and our telephone is (302) 239-8522. If possible maybe we could visit the retreat someday, you are not that far from us. Have a great day and God bless you for your kindness for "those who can't speak for themselves".
Sincerely,

I love your new website, truly awesome. I check your site every so often because I miss the people at the club, especially Dawn. But I'm still grieving the loss of Sammeelee and Angel at their young ages by that horrible kidney disease and can't visit the rescue yet, I avoid Peis, but every once in awhile I need a little "fix" and check the site. It's unique, beautiful and very informative. Congratulations Ryan & Melissa, your work is just as fabulous as the rescue's.

We have recently lost our most belove "Bouvier des Flanders", Deenie. Out hearts are broken. Deenie went in the hospital just after my husband went in the hospital himself. But our sweet companion didn't get to come home from the hospital. My husband was and is still devestated by this! For he thought it was he that was to go up to heaven and meet his maker. As you can imagine, he is bewildered and oh so lonely for his sweet, sweet little girl (Deenie was 120 lbs of pure sweetness)!
The story of *Scarlet* so touched us. I'm interested in "CHILL" (Shar-Pei)that I saw on one of the wedsites and now can't find it. I want to show my husband CHILL's picture (has a deformed left front paw). If you could send me the website address - I would really appreciate it.
I have wanted a Shar-Pei for a very, very long time! Thanking you in advance, Joan Levanios Phone 610-631-0350 Norristown, PA

Hello, I have been reading memorials, etc. on your site as a helping hand to me while dealing with the loss of my beautiful "Baby Boy" Beijing Toi Taipan. Tai was 12 years old and died on Wednesday morning at 5 am from bloat. When I brought him home to my house he had been abandoned and beaten severely with what the doctor thought might have been a pipe or heavy piece of wood. Tai was severely malnourished and terrified of everyone, but me. He chose to come with me after I saw him in my friend's backyard when I was leaving her house on Saturday in May of 1992. Tai was hiding behind her garage, she had been putting food and water out for him, but I guess he decided I looked trustworthy and came slowly to me with his head down. He was bloody and terrribly thin, but the pleading in his eyes tore at my heart and, after almost 20 years of being a "cat person" I opened the car door and he hesitantly got into the front seat with me. He rode almost on my lap with me until I got him home. I immediately gave him some ground beef and rice which he would only take from my hand. The next day I took him to my vet and he told me that Tai had been on his own for quite awhile and needed constant care and understanding. This dog became my fourth child. No matter what I asked of him, he did it without reservation. He was the most loyal and loving creature I have ever had the honor of knowing. We had 11 wonderful years together, and on Wednesday morning, July 16th, he woke me screaming in pain and bloated to almost twice his size. I woke my son and we rushed him to the ER vet, but he died only a few minutes after arrival. My heart is broken. I loved him so very much and I will miss him until I can see him again in heaven. It has helped me so much to read your other memorials and know that so many people knew and loved one of these wonderful creatures. Thanks for listening.

I was just visiting your website, just to look. I am a big Shar pei lover. I adopted my 1st shar pei in 1988, Shasha (red horse coat, she died in 1990, she was only a 1 1/2 yrs old, I had intented to breed her with the male I had gotten (white, horse coat). Well after greiving for awhile I got another female, (Mona, red very soft coat), accidently bred them, Mona had 5 beautiful, healthy puppies, 3 females & 2 males, sold 3 to good homes, had contracts, everything. The 1 male (Chubby-very soft coat)and 1 female (Whitey-very soft coat, look like short hair but very thick long hair) we kepted because they got sick with parvo, they were 14 wks, and with the vets help they servived. The one of the other females came back (Sable-horse coat). Tried to find a home for her, could not find anyone that was right, so we kepted her too. Well after along story like that, they all lived very long healthy, happy live. Mona was 9 yrs old when she died, Buddha was 12 yrs old, Whitey and Chubby were 12 yrs old, and they died within 8 months of each other, Sable, the one that came back is still going strong, her birth day was May 19 along with Whitey and Chubby. I'm sorry for the long story, but it touch my heart so much to see people like you doing such great things for these beautiful animals. I have always been a cat person and had 2 cats with my 5 dogs. I have very much fallen in LOVE with this breed and plan to have more. After all of this I just want to say THANK YOU for all that you are doing and your web site is great.

I just think what you do is wonderful. Our family is the proud owners of two Shar Pei's (Molly & Mattie). They are wonderful animals. I didn't realize there were rescues out there.
