Darcy - August 2004
Pei-Mate of the Month
Hi my name
is Darcy. I arrived at the rescue in June 2003 and
had come
from a shelter in Maryland.
I was a lost dog. Boy, it is not fun being on the
run.
I got hungry and I was scared.
I did not have a comfy bed
at night either and
I was afraid to close my eyes for fear
that someone or something
would grab me. Well, I did get caught
by animal control and that is how
I ended up at the shelter. Then a nice
man arrived saying he was from
Operation Scarlet.
He drove me to the rescue and
from then on my life kept getting better and better.
Life at the rescue was not bad, but
when a very
nice couple
came to O.S. and met me, that is when my life
became
heaven on earth.
My new mom and dad are Art and Roseann Pettinato.
Since I am a bit on the shy
side, I am going to have my mom tell you
the rest of the story.
Just one quick thing – thank you O.S. for
saving my life.
The nice man
that transported me to O.S. was
Russ Osborn. He is a
member of the
rescue. He and
everyone at O.S. were very kind to me. Thank you
for helping me to find my new mom and dad. They are
great!!!
Okay, mom, now it is your turn.

There is so much to tell about
Darcy. She is the light of our lives. When Art and I decided to
adopt Darcy
it was one of the easiest decisions we ever made. My In-laws came
with us to help decide who would
be chosen. If it was up to me, I would take all the Pei home. When
we saw Darcy we all agreed she was
the one. She had a rough start getting adjusted to her new home.
She suffered from separation anxiety.
It took a few months for Darcy to settle in. But when she settled,
she really settled. Our house belongs
to Darcy. She is definitely the Queen of the house. Darcy likes to
sleep in our bed with us and even
without us. She takes her afternoon nap with
Grandpop in his bed. The rest of the day she is on one
of the couches until I come home from work. My Mother-in-law tells
me that Darcy knows what time I get
home. She goes to the window at about 5:00 and just waits for the
car to pull up. As soon as I open the door,
I'm attacked by our little girl. But that's nothing compared to the
welcome Art gets when he finally arrives
home for the night. She is Daddy's little girl to say the least.
He gets big wet kisses as soon as he walks in the door. Darcy also
loves to play with children. She is still timid around people she
doesn't know. It takes
her a while to warm up to people. It really makes me wonder what
our sweet little girl went through
before we adopted her. That doesn't matter now, because she is safe
and sound with people who
would never hurt her. Art and I are so lucky to have Darcy in our
lives. I can't imagine life without her.
Thanks to O.S. for all their hard work and dedication. Without Dawn
and all the Volunteers at O.S.,
I wouldn't be writing about Darcy.
